William Nicholson 'London Types' Guardsman Poster
In 1898 William Nicholson published a suite of thirteen woodcut prints of London locals under the title 'London Types'. Their directness and efficiency of line and colour were a landmark in British art of the time, and they remain to this day supreme examples of the printmaker's art. This poster features his 'Guardsman' print from the edition. This is one of the Queen's Life Guards, whom visitors to London will doubtless have seen guarding the entrance to Horse Guards Parade, and taking part in the ever-popular Changing Of The Guard.
