This exhibition poster is for a show of the work of the pioneering British 19th century photographer Julia Margaret Cameron. The photograph seen here is her 1868 portrait of Charles Darwin, famed author of On the Origin of Species, who contributed greatly to our understanding of evolution.

As with many of Julia Margaret Cameron's intense and ethereal portraits, the image is partly de-focused and grainy due to the nature of the early photographic equipment and processes used to produce it (for example, her dark room was in fact a converted coal house). We have left these features as-is rather than attempt to 'fix' them, as we believe this is the most respectful way to display the image, and one which retains the innate power in Cameron's work. Please therefore bear this in mind when purchasing the poster: essentially yes the photo is slightly out of focus, yes it's meant to be that way, and yes it is a wonderful image.
