Collection: John William Waterhouse

John William Waterhouse (1849–1917) was an English painter known for his depictions of women from Greek mythology and Arthurian legend, working in a style influenced by the Pre-Raphaelites though he belonged to a later generation. Born in Rome to English parents, he trained at the Royal Academy Schools and exhibited regularly at the RA from 1874. Works such as The Lady of Shalott (1888) and Hylas and the Nymphs (1896) are among the most recognised paintings of the Victorian era.
