Collection: Marcel Duchamp

Marcel Duchamp (1887-1968) was a French-American artist whose work and ideas had a profound influence on the development of twentieth-century art. His readymades, including Fountain (1917), challenged fundamental assumptions about what constitutes a work of art. Associated in turn with Cubism, Dada and Surrealism, he ultimately defied classification, and his conceptual approach shaped generations of artists who followed.
