Joseph Stella

Joseph Stella (1877-1946) was an Italian-born American painter who became one of the leading figures of American modernism. His kaleidoscopic painting Battle of Lights, Coney Island, Mardi Gras (1913-14) was among the first Futurist works produced in America. He is equally known for his monumental depictions of the Brooklyn Bridge and for lyrical still lifes and botanical studies from his later career.
