Herbert Bayer (1900-1985) was an Austrian-American graphic designer, painter, photographer and architect who studied and later taught at the Bauhaus. He directed the school's printing and advertising workshop and designed its influential universal typeface. After emigrating to the United States in 1938, he worked extensively in graphic design, exhibition design and environmental art.
