Collection: Henri Matisse

Henri Matisse (1869–1954) was a French painter widely regarded as one of the most important artists of the twentieth century. A leader of the Fauve movement from 1905, he pursued a lifelong exploration of colour, pattern and simplified form that took him from radical early canvases through paper cut-outs in his final years. His work spanned painting, sculpture, printmaking and stained glass, and his influence on modern art and design remains pervasive.
